Nashua River Clean-up Day Sunday, June 29 [ 2008-06-22 ]
From Marion Stoddart: The Groton Greenway Committee and Nashoba Paddler will host a river clean-up of a portion of the Nashua River on Sunday, June 29th between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm, rain or shine. Nashoba Paddler will provide 10 free canoes (2 people per canoe), paddles, personal flotation devices, and safety instruction. Those who wish to bring their own canoes are invited to do so. The Greenway Committee will provide drinking water, maps of the area to be cleaned, plastic trash bags and a limited number of grasping tools to collect trash. Groton residents will be given first placement in free canoes. Children must be 10 years of age or older. Pre-registration is required. Registrants will receive a list of suggested clothing and equipment to bring and are to meet at the Petapawag Canoe Launch Site in Groton on Nod Road at 12:30 pm.The Nashua River clean-up project will provide participants a rare opportunity to explore the Pepperell Road Pond section of the beautiful Nashua River while at the same time providing service and having fun.
The Groton Greenway Committee’s mission is to protect and preserve Groton’s rivers and streams including wetlands and surrounding lands. Nashoba Paddler is a canoe and kayak outfitter located on Route 225 along the Nashua River in West Groton. They offer rentals, group tours, instruction and River Camp, an expedition-based canoeing summer camp for ages 6 – 17.
